"Photos by Zoon Media Cabinetry: For most of the Online Cabinets, the couple chose slab cabinets made from walnut in a custom stain. They took the upper units all the way up to the 10-foot ceilings. They considered finishing the upper cabinets with glass-front doors but decided not to, as “it felt more country and less modern,” Nicole says. Here’s a closer look at how the maple, on the far left, contrasts with the walnut. Here’s the maple wine storage area, on the opposite side of the kitchen from the open shelving area. “We wanted to make sure those parts looked different and felt like furniture,” Nicole says of the maple pieces. The island: The Online Cabinets island combines white quartz with an oak butcher block waterfall counter that caps the end. “We wanted something with a really natural feel,” Nicole says of the oak. Here’s a pulled-back look at the waterfall Online Cabinets countertop from behind the island. You can also see the white shiplap that backs the staircase. A wall of glass separates the staircase from the rest of the kitchen; in this photo you can detect it by the reflections of the chandelier over the dining table. Faucet: The clean-lined faucet on the island sink helps give the kitchen its modern feel. Range hood: The hood is a custom design the Tews came up with. They took a drawing to a local maker, who transformed the idea into reality. Pendants: The couple wanted the range hood to be a focal point of the kitchen. “So we needed to choose a pendant that was special, but not too special,” Nicole says. Glass with gold accents fit the bill, complementing the space without distracting from the hood design. Hidden pantry: Online Cabinets The open door shown in this photo leads Online Cabinets to a butler’s pantry. (See previous image to see the door closed.) Behind the pantry is a private office. “Even as a kid, you always want a hidden room,” Nicole says. “We wanted it to be a fun space that we loved. It kept coming up, so we did it.”Trickle Creek Designer HomesYou can get a glimpse of the butler’s pantry in this photo, in the open door to the left of the refrigerator. It contains a countertop, microwave and cabinetry. Beyond it, the private office has two large lounge chairs and a TV — but no desk." "Kitchen at a Glance The owners had this Bertazzoni oven in mind when Online Cabinets they first chatted to Shaw about the kitchen design. “They had it spray painted at the Ferrari factory in Italy,” he says, “in [custom] Ferrari yellow!” The pendant light over the island was also colored in this way. The yellow oven and pendant light create bright focal points, complemented by the blue cabinets. “It’s quite unusual for clients to suggest this much color, but since we’ve had this kitchen on our website, it’s made a big impact,” Shaw says. “It’s just so much fun!” Fitting in the solid oak countertops and backsplashes against the uneven stone walls was a big challenge. “We scribed them in, which means cutting the wood by hand Online Cabinets so it fits perfectly,” Shaw says. “It was a huge job for our installation team.” Space was tight in this cottage kitchen, so Shaw designed a small-scale island for the center of the room. “There was a little table in the middle before, which one of the couple loved to work at and so really wanted an island in the Online Cabinets same spot, but it had to be small,” Shaw says. “Now this area is used a lot for food prep.”Sustainable KitchensThe cabinet built into the alcove at the far end of the room was designed by the homeowners. “We all call it the ‘bonkers cabinet!’” Shaw says. “It’s a random mix of drawers and doors, and we built it exactly according to their sketch.” The drawers in the bonkers cabinet are all made from Online Cabinets different British hardwoods. “We have an agreement with a sawmill in Somerset called Interesting Timbers,” Shaw says. “They take down trees that are overhanging people’s homes, and we buy the offcuts and make them into drawers.” The owners found the kitchen faucet on a Swedish website and imported it. “It’s self-color brass, so it looks quite muted,” Shaw says. “It can be hard to find brass that hasn’t been polished and made to look bling.”"
