This custom wood hood by Sullivan Building & Design Group was built from old beadboard paneling and antique wood beams, which enclose a Broan fan insert with a roof-mounted remote blower. Did you use an unusual material? Jacob Wight of design-build firm Syltebo Wight Homes framed a range hood with two-by-fours and drywall and coated it in primer stucco in this kitchen in his personal home. The stucco hood encloses a Vent-A-Hood range insert. Did your creative range hood save you money? The clients in this home Affordable Kitchen Cupboards originally wanted to use a metal range hood, but that wasn’t in their budget. So designer Lauren Davenport Imber of Davenport Designs had a vent hood custom made from wood, then faux-painted it to look like metal. Imber had two stainless steel straps riveted to the frame. Your turn: Please share all the details about your creative range hood, Affordable Kitchen Cupboards and your sharpest photos, in the Comments below. Your photos and advice might be featured in a Houzz story." John Varady and Eve Hoyt weren’t interested in taking the standard white-tile-and-stainless-steel-appliance route when remodeling their turn-of-the-century farmhouse kitchen. They wanted color, creativity and retro-inspired designs to make a family space that felt unique and reflected their Affordable Kitchen Cupboards personalities. Interior designer Hannah Dee provided the game plan for a kitchen that put a premium on character. "Kitchen at a Glance Dee describes Varady and Hoyt as a very talented and creative couple. She calls Varady a bit of a mad scientist who’s always up to something, from growing hops in his garden that he uses for brewing beer to woodworking in his shop. Varady built the open shelving unit on the back wall of the Affordable Kitchen Cupboards kitchen using live-edge wood and metal pipes. The shelves display an assortment of brightly colored Fiestaware that Hoyt inherited from her grandmother. When Hoyt is not homeschooling her two daughters, she is creating neon art for her company, Evening Neon. Black appliances were selected to complement the tile floor and to Affordable Kitchen Cupboards keep with the retro-inspired design. “Stainless steel appliances would have looked too sleek and out of place,” Dee says. Dee says that no color was out of bounds, but keeping the kitchen from looking like a clown tent was a juggling act. The artistic glass tile shown above provides a rainbow of color Affordable Kitchen Cupboards behind the oven, therefore a solid green subway tile was used on the other wall to strike a balance."
